Hi everyone, and an early Happy Halloween to you!
Some of our holiday traditions stem from medieval times.
For instance, in Ian – Book 3 of my Scottish MadMan MacKeefe Series, I show how they celebrated All Hallow’s Eve. Back then, on All Hallow’s Eve, children and beggars would go door to door begging for soul cakes. Soul cakes were small, round, palm-sized cakes made with spices and currants, and had a cross on the top. Supposedly for every soul cake eaten, a soul would be released from purgatory. (What we know as Trick or Treat.)
While the people begged for soul cakes, they carried hallowed-out gourds with carved faces or designs in them, and with lit candles inside. This would light their way and also scare away the evil spirits. (What we know as Jack-o-lanterns – they didn’t have pumpkins.) One last tradition was that the men would dress like women and the women like men, just for fun on that day. (What we know as Halloween costumes.)
You can read more about the customs of All Hallow’s Eve, or as the ancient pagans once called Samhain, by reading Ian – Book 3 of my MadMan MacKeefe Series.

Slade Spencer is a warlock in denial who must hone the skills of his Craft in order to break a shapeshifting curse to save his past lover, Susie Vasilly in Familiar.
Until June 15th, I am offering my paranormal romance, Familiarfor FREE. Just click on the cover or the title to get your copy.
Slade is one of my favorite heroes. He has been accused of doing something horrible, but out of all my heroes, I’d have to say he’s probably the most like a gentleman and truly treats a woman with respect, no matter what the rest of the town thinks of him.
I had fun writing this novel and especially the character of Galen, Slade’s eccentric uncle, who has a fetish for cats – or familiars – and has three dozen of them. (WatchFamiliar Book trailer video to see some of his cats.)
I also wanted to mention that I am in the process of creating a few new special pages on my website. One of them is my new recipe page. You can read about some of my characters’ favorite foods and they’ll tell you how to make them. My recipes are all original and super simple to make.
And one last thing, if you haven’t had the chance yet to pick up copies of my 99 cent presummer specials, you’d better hurry. Sunday is the last day to get The Sheik and the Siren as well as Thief of Olympus for 99 cents. Next week the prices will return to normal.
So fire up the grill and try out one of my new recipes, as I love to grill and will be having many new outdoor grilling recipes added to my site all summer. Keep an eye on the page and get to know my heroes and heroines and some of my other main characters as they tell you about their favorite recipes and how to make them.
(The recipe page is a work in progress, as Zeb is taking up most my time right now as I’m finishing up his story, Seducing Zeb which will be released by the end of the month. Watch Tarnished Saintsbook trailer video.)

Now, for my big news, Judging Judas – Book 3 in my Tarnished Saints Series is now available! Judas is the sheriff of my fictional small town of Sweet Water, Michigan. This differs from a lot of series by the fact it is about twelve sons of a preacher who are far from saints. Matter of fact, they are nothing but trouble!
This is my 30th published book, and I’d like to thank you all for your support. In celebration, and for the first time ever, I am offering Doubting Thomas,Book1 of the series FREE from May 6-10th only. And be sure to pick up Luring Levi – Book 2, as well, followed by Judging Judas.
To talk about my writing process, my idea was to have 12 brothers – each named after an apostle. Their domineering preacher father wanted them to carry on in his footsteps, but as you’ll see, the Taylor boys didn’t have the same plans. <Grin> This series is about romance, redemption and finding the will to carry on no matter what hand life deals you. And since I don’t like books to get too dark, I’ve managed to bring a little humor into the stories to keep them balanced.
My tarnished saints are just that – men who have been raised with rules and morals but also lost most of them along the way, becoming a little tarnished. They deal with real-life problems and issues that we all go through, and are forced to make decisions for a better future because of their mistakes of the past. There is a lot of inner turmoil that makes them search the depths of their souls to find forgiveness as well as to change. For example, Levi has gone to prison for tax evasion, turned in by his own brother, Judas. Ok, so I’m having fun with this idea, but beware, these are steamy romances and not G rated.
My idea for Thunder Lake and the little town of Sweet Water came from my own experiences of growing up and visiting my grandparents who lived on a lake in Michigan and were five miles from the nearest, small town. And though my Taylor boys have all gone their separate ways after the death of their parents, an inheritance left to them in their father’s will is bringing them all home to be reunited once again. (I feel a TV mini-series in the makings here.)
And as for the process of how I write – I do not plan everything out ahead of time because these Taylor boys end up doing whatever they want and changing it anyway. I admit, I’m having a hard time controlling them. But with 12 brothers and their personal stories in the making, I’ve decided to finally start writing down info to help me keep things straight by the time I get to the last book and also keep me sane.
So please pick up a copy of Doubting Thomas today, and I hope you will continue with the stories of his brothers, Levi and Judas. And keep watching my website, as Seducing Zeb will be released this summer. I hope to have a different brother’s story released every few months.
So, stop by my website where you can get one of the first looks at my new Tarnished Saints book trailer video and see what these handsome men look like, as well as read excerpts of the books.
